Ticthwell 26/10/18

Did a bit of sea watching at Titchwell, had fantastic display of 12 Pomarine Skua flying around.  Below are some of the birds that I saw from the beach.

Managed to see a Purple Sandpiper also running around at the waters edge.

Got to see Pink Footed Geese to add to my year list.

There were also many Brent Geese feeding.

Had an impressive fly over of geese in a formation of a V.

A Little Egret catching something to eat.

Had a good view through our scope of two Red Kites flying over, was a good end to the day.

 

Beluga Whale

Saturday (29/09/18) was a day of a few rare treats, we were hunting for the Beluga Whale, but it had moved further down the Thames.  Managed though to see several  Clouded Yellow Butterflies.

Then went to Tilbury Fort to track down the Beluga Whale.

I managed to see it at Coalhouse Fort on Wednesday but my dad missed it.  Only managed to get a photo with its back just about showing out of the water.

Then it was onto Rainham Marshes to find the Pectoral Sandpiper and about 45 minutes of waiting it turned up and was feeding along the waters edge.

Hyde Park 2018

It was a wet day in Hyde Park for Chris Packhams People’s Walk for Wildlife on 22nd September 2018  He spoke how we all need to do our part to help nature, including all sorts of animals and plants from parks, our gardens, countryside and farms.

He also said about the Peoples Manifesto for Wildlife, giving a set of ideas that would make a huge difference tomorrow for our wildlife.

Whilst at the park I noticed some Ring Necked Parakeets and lots of Pigeons taking cover in a tree from the rain.

Dungeness

Last day birdwatching before returning to school, want to Dungeness.

Managed to see the American Black Tern , which is a rare visitor to the UK sitting with Common and a Sandwich Tern.  Had a good day as also had Arctic Skua for the first time.  Had some help from the Bird Observatory identifying a juvenile Caspian Gull.

Bird Fair 2018

This year’s Bird Fair was the 30th Anniversary and this year’s project was to create a haven for Argentina’s Flamingos.

My favourite part of the weekend was the bird ringing stand and I was lucky to release a Tree Creeper.

There were lots of celebrities at the fair, Nigel Marvin helped us when doing a bug hunt.  We also did some pond dipping and Nick Baker gave an informative talk about pond life.  Bill Oddie and Mike Dilger were funny when on stage doing bird pointless.  Also met Chris Packman, Stephen Moss and Iolo Williams, all were interested in the home made T-Shirts me and my brother made.

We went out in the evening to find some moths and got up early to walk round the hides and saw Opsrey.  Took a walk and found the Red Necked Phalarope at the Goldeneye Hide, though it was distant.  Managed to see 82 different bird species during the weekend of the 115 recorded.
